The United Nations Environment Programme welcomes the Treetures Environmental Education Program, as a Plant for the Planet: Billion Tree Campaign partner.

“In this first global tree planting initiative, facilitated by the United Nations Environment Programme, private sector enterprises, governments, civil society organizations, youth groups, non-governmental organizations and the public at large are encouraged to enter tree planting pledges online at http://www.unep.org/BILLIONTREECAMPAIGN/.”

“The objective of the campaign is to plant and care for a total of 7 billion trees worldwide by the end of 2009.”

“As you are aware, we have but a short time to avert the negative impacts of climate change.  The solutions are numerous, and, as many economists have emphasized, affordable when compared to the cost of inaction.  Trees and forests are natural and economically important “sinks”, absorbing carbon from the atmosphere and locking it away in trunks and branches.”

The United Nations Environment Programme acknowledges the efforts that the Treetures Environmental Education Program has been undertaking to inform children on tree planting through illustrated whimsical characters.
